South Asian Concert Series

About

This annual concert connects members of the Canadian South Asian community with stars from back home in a night off musical celebration that displays the beauty of South Asian music.

Without a doubt, the music of South Asia is among the best in the world. Every song can be seen as an exquisite, unique piece of art. It should come as no surprise that a subcontinent as large and diverse as South Asia produces music of all genres and styles.
There are classic Hindi songs that use piano, guitar, and the human voice to create beautiful, gentle melodies.

Modern Bollywood hits keep this beautiful singing, but combine elements from other genres like Hip-Hop, Pop, and Electronic music to create modern, revolutionary compositions.

Then we have the heavy drums and driving beats of Punjabi music, which combine with meticulously crafted melodies and rhythms to create songs that are sure to get any listener moving!

All of this musical variety can be heard firsthand at the South Asian Concert Celebration! This event has been running since 2012, connecting music fans with South Asian stars annually.

True to its name, the concert is a night of musical celebration, as audiences get to hear all of their favourite South Asian songs played out on a stage right in front of them, by a live band and some of the biggest South Asian artists.

Just like with the South Asian Fest in the Park, the Concert Celebration provides local, up and coming artists the opportunity to perform on a stage for an audience, and chase their dreams.

Throughout the concert’s history we have had several stars perform on our stage. Gippy Grewal, Mickey Singh, and Nimrit Khaira, and Bilal Saeed are just some of the names who’ve graced our stage.

They come from all over South Asia, and all have their own musical styles and specialities, making every year a unique experience! They sing all of the genres/styles mentioned before, taking audiences on a musical journey through the culture of South Asia.

The concert is an engaging experience as audience members are encouraged to dance, sing along, request songs, go up on stage with the performers, and to meet their idols and take a picture on our red carpet!
