Dream Weavers Community Film Project Empowered 60 Aspiring Local Creatives
Brampton (Jan 10, 2022) – Canadian Multicultural Heritage Council has successfully completed its year-long Dream Weavers Community Film Project that engaged and empowered local community members to share their stories, generate a dynamic exchange of creative ideas, engender a sense of belonging, and share their collective vision with the wider community through the creation of cinematic expressions.
This hands-on project saw over 60 aspiring creatives from within local communities bring their creative visions to life in a collaborative environment where they came together to learn, co-create, produce, and present cinematic works to highlight diverse stories and celebrate and define their neighbourhoods. The project was free of cost to all participants and engaged community members from various age and cultural groups, regardless of any prior experience with filmmaking.
Congratulating Canadian Multicultural Heritage Council on the success of Dream Weavers, MPP Amarjot Sandhu said “This project helped people connect with culture, heritage and the arts, and acted as a catalyst for bringing the community together through artistic expression, and empowering it\’s members in a constructive creative manner.”
Thanking Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for their support of the project, the CMHC Board stated, “The impact of OTF’s grant cannot be underestimated. This grant has allowed us to launch a pioneer project which is spawning an independent creative scene and bringing opportunities which currently do not exist in our local community.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $108 million to 629 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
